We first went to Escot a number of years ago … I have a much loved photo of DD1 being followed along a path by a flush of ducks in the wetland area. But back then, the facilities were basic and apart from the otters and birds of prey there wasn’t much to do. Either my memories are false, or they have done a lot to improve the site since then. The wetlands are rather overgrown now, and not a duck in site, the otters and raptors are much the same, but the rest of the park has some wonderful activities. There are all sorts of climbing activities to do on a walk round the park, the herd of wild boar has grown, there is an iron age village reconstruction and some of the views from the park are wonderful. The main thing that kept the girls busy was the beech maze … although they cheated in the end! There were even chickens wandering around to keep my interest  including this little fellow …

A kestrel – the face isn’t quite sharp enough for it to be a good pic, but I was still impressed!

Asian otters – neither nocturnal nor solitary like our native otters

We had a good day there, and stayed much longer than I expected. But we still had time when we came home to watch Mamma Mia together – well, DD2 and I, anyway, the other two decided it wasn’t for them! :533: At one point during the evening, DD1 suddenly called out from her bedroom that a sparrow hawk had flown into her window :o We all saw it, sitting rather stunned on a roof before it flew off again … life on holiday is never boring!
